Owen lives in Brooklyn, NY with their fantastic roommates & two lovely cats. They grew up along the east coast, spending much of their childhood in very conservative Christian environments. While they never quite felt comfortable in that context, they didn’t have the language necessary to articulate why. At 13, they went to public school for the first time, which kicked off years of learning, listening, & introspection. After a long struggle, they realized that the best way they could be themself & engage the world was by losing the restrictions they felt around them when identifying as either a man or woman.
Since moving to NYC, they’ve grown a deep appreciation for connecting with people from all walks of life, & gained a passion for understanding the many ways in which people, gender, & culture interact. They joined Warby Parker in 2015, which has challenged them to grow their leadership skills & engage conversations around gender in a new way.
In the last year, they’ve worked with the LGBTQ employee resource group to provide education around transgender & nonbinary experiences. In June, they presented on the history of nonbinary genders at WarbyCon, Warby Parker’s internal conference. They are currently a supervisor at the Bergen St location, & loving reading & gaming in their spare time.
